Competitive Program
Soul In Motion Dance Company is Burlington’s newest competitive dance program for dancers ages 6 through 17. We are focused on developing strong, expressive dancers through high-quality training and choreography. With an emphasis on technique, artistry, and community, dancers receive focused and comprehensive training in a supportive and inspiring environment. While working closely with experienced teachers and choreographers, dancers can grow, challenge themselves, and truly feel what it means to bring their soul into motion. With a limited number of dancers accepted each season, every member receives the attention and mentorship needed to thrive.
Our competitive teams focus on jazz, acro, lyrical, and contemporary, allowing dancers to explore both powerful athletic movement and emotional storytelling through dance. To further support technical growth, all dancers also take weekly ballet classes and cross-training sessions, which serve as a foundation for strength, control, stamina, and proper technique across all styles. Detailed program pricing is provided upon team acceptance.

Season 1
Season 1 at Soul In Motion runs from September through June and is designed to give dancers a well-rounded and exciting competitive dance experience. Throughout the season, dancers will attend their weekly scheduled technique classes and choreography rehearsals to develop strong skills and prepare for performance.
The competitive schedule includes approximately 3–4 competitions, along with 1–2 workshops or conventions to further support dancers’ growth and exposure to the wider dance industry. Dancers will also have the opportunity to perform in 1–2 seasonal showcases, celebrating their progress and hard work.
All dancers participate in mandatory group routines, with additional opportunities to perform solos, duets, trios, and small groups when offered.

At Soul In Motion Dance Company, we take a well-rounded and thoughtful approach to dancer placement. Our goal is not only to assess current ability, but also each dancer’s potential, work ethic, and readiness to grow within a team environment.
Dancers will be evaluated across several key areas:
Technique
Strength, control, alignment, flexibility, and overall technical foundation across all styles.
Musicality & Performance Quality
Ability to move with intention, connect to the music, and express emotion through movement.
Work Ethic & Focus
Effort, attitude, ability to take corrections, and engagement throughout the audition.
Versatility
Willingness and ability to adapt to different styles, combinations, and teaching approaches.
Team Fit
How each dancer contributes to a positive, supportive environment and aligns with the values of the company.
Placement Philosophy
Placement decisions are made with careful consideration to ensure each dancer is in an environment where they will feel challenged, supported, and set up for success.
Our focus is on long-term growth — both as dancers and individuals — rather than only current skill level.
-
At Soul In Motion Dance Company, we are looking for dancers who are not only talented, but passionate, dedicated, and eager to grow.
We value dancers who demonstrate:
A strong foundation in technique (or a willingness to build one)
A positive attitude and strong work ethic
Focus, coachability, and openness to feedback
A genuine love for dance and performing
The ability to work as part of a supportive team
Above all, we are looking for dancers who are excited to be part of a community where they can challenge themselves, express themselves, and feel like they belong.
-
Dancers selected for the competitive team will receive further details regarding placement and next steps.
Dancers who are not selected are still encouraged to join our technique and/or recreational classes (based on availability) to continue developing their skills and work toward future placement on the competitive team.
